Liposuction

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck. Liposuction also shapes (contours) in these areas. Other names for liposuction include lipoplasty and body contouring. Liposuction isn’t typically considered an overall weight-loss method or a weight-loss alternative. If you’re overweight, you’re likely to lose more weight through diet and exercise or through bariatric procedures — such as gastric bypass surgery — than you would with liposuction. You may be a candidate for liposuction if you have too much body fat in specific spots but otherwise have a stable body weight.

What is
Liposuction?

Most people only need to do one liposuction procedure to see results. Surgery takes one to two hours, depending on the size of the treated area. It’s usually done as an outpatient procedure, meaning you should be able to go home the same day you have surgery. Recovery time is usually a few days. You should follow your recommendations for recovery, which may include wearing a special bandage or limiting activities. You may need to wait 2 to 4 weeks before you can safely resume strenuous activity. It may take several months for the full results to be seen as swelling goes down.

The amount of fat that can safely be removed on an outpatient basis, or in and out surgery, is recommended to be less than 5 liters.
Both men and women can improve their body’s appearance with liposuction. People with heart problems or blood clotting disorders and pregnant women should avoid liposuction because it could cause serious complications.
There are a few different types of liposuction available. Each technique has its merits and having so consultation before hand is required.
Recovery varies from one person to the next, but in general, most people can return to desk work and light activities within a week or so after treatment.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure, so there will be some swelling, pain and discomfort in the first few days of your recovery.
